Problem

Three resistors of 6 Ω6\,\Omega, 9 Ω9\,\Omega and 18 Ω18\,\Omega are connected such that the 6 Ω6\,\Omega and 9 Ω9\,\Omega resistors are in parallel, and this parallel arrangement is connected in series with the 18 Ω18\,\Omega resistor across a 36 V36\,\text{V} battery. (i) Draw a simplified circuit step by step to show how the network can be reduced to a single equivalent resistor. (ii) Calculate the equivalent resistance of the entire circuit. (iii) Determine the current supplied by the battery. (iv) Find the current through each of the 6 Ω6\,\Omega and 9 Ω9\,\Omega resistors. (v) Compute the electrical power dissipated in the 18 Ω18\,\Omega resistor.
