## Nature of Science Scientists have called the second law of thermodynamics the most fundamental law in all of science and some, including Albert Einstein, have argued that it is one of the few laws that will never be overthrown. It is important, however, to understand that it is a statement of experience which cannot be proved. It is not impossible for a disordered arrangement to spontaneously change into a more ordered arrangement, but it is statistically unlikely. The term 'law' is sometimes used for statements that allow predictions to be made about natural phenomena without explaining them. Does the second law fit this description? Can the second law ever be falsified?
