Problem

A rigid disc rotates about a fixed axis in the following manner: • From t=0t=0 to t=5 st=5\,\text{s}, its angular velocity increases uniformly from 00 to 20 rad s−120\,\text{rad s}^{-1}. • From t=5 st=5\,\text{s} to t=9 st=9\,\text{s}, it continues to rotate at this constant angular velocity. • From t=9 st=9\,\text{s} to t=12 st=12\,\text{s}, it slows down uniformly to rest. Answer the following: (i) Sketch an accurate ω\omega–tt graph for the complete motion. (ii) Determine the magnitude of angular acceleration during the first interval and of angular deceleration during the last interval. (iii) Calculate the total angular displacement of the disc in the entire 12 s12\,\text{s}. (iv) On a separate set of axes, sketch the corresponding θ\theta–tt graph, marking clearly the changes in curvature and the values of θ\theta at t=5 9,12 st=5\,9,12\,\text{s}.
