Problem

A train moves with uniform acceleration along a straight track. (i) The train passes a signal post P with a speed of 12 m s−112\,\text{m s}^{-1} and reaches the next signal post Q, 100 m100\,\text{m} further on, in 5.0 s5.0\,\text{s}. Calculate the acceleration of the train. (ii) Determine the speed of the train as it passes the second signal post Q. (iii) After passing Q, the train continues to accelerate at the same rate. Find the additional time required for its speed to reach 30 m s−130\,\text{m s}^{-1}."
