Problem

Two distinct lines pp and qq are cut by a transversal rr. Answer the following questions in the order given. (a) Define the following terms as used when a transversal intersects two lines: (i) Corresponding angles (ii) Alternate interior angles (iii) Alternate exterior angles (iv) Co–interior (consecutive interior) angles (b) At the intersection of rr with pp, label the four angles in clockwise order starting from the top–left position as ∠1, ∠2, ∠3, ∠4\angle1,\,\angle2,\,\angle3,\,\angle4. At the intersection of rr with qq, label the four angles in the same manner as ∠5, ∠6, ∠7, ∠8\angle5,\,\angle6,\,\angle7,\,\angle8. Identify and write the number pairs for: (i) one pair of corresponding angles, (ii) one pair of alternate interior angles, (iii) one pair of co–interior angles. (c) If p∥qp \parallel q and ∠1=110∘\angle1 = 110^{\circ}, determine the measure of ∠5\angle5. Give a short reason to justify your answer.
