Problem

A metal rod of fixed length is held perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field. Consider the following situations and answer the questions that follow: (i) Explain how the magnitude of the force on the rod will change if the current through it is doubled while the magnetic field strength and length remain the same. (ii) The rod is now rotated so that it makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the magnetic field, with all other factors unchanged. Explain what happens to the force and why. (iii) Give a reason why a stronger magnet produces a larger force on the same current-carrying rod than a weaker magnet.
