Problem

Answer the following questions related to quadratic expressions: (i) Prove that for any real number kk, the polynomial x2+2kx+k2x^{2}+2kx+k^{2} can be expressed as the square of a linear polynomial in xx. (ii) Using the result of part (i), show that 4x2+12xy+9y24x^{2}+12xy+9y^{2} can be expressed as the square of a binomial in xx and yy. (iii) Hence or otherwise, determine the value of mm for which the polynomial 4x2+12xy+9y2−m4x^{2}+12xy+9y^{2}-m is exactly divisible by the binomial x+32yx+\dfrac{3}{2}y.
