Problem

Jupiter has a mass of 1.9×1027 kg1.9 \times 10^{27}\,\text{kg}. Answer the following questions. Take G=6.67×10−11 N m2kg−2G = 6.67 \times 10^{-11}\,\text{N\,m}^2\text{kg}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the gravitational field intensity at point PP, which is 2.0×107 m2.0 \times 10^{7}\,\text{m} from Jupiter’s centre. (ii) Calculate the gravitational field intensity at point QQ, which is 3.0×107 m3.0 \times 10^{7}\,\text{m} from Jupiter’s centre and hence determine the ratio EP:EQE_P : E_Q. (iii) At what distance from Jupiter’s centre will the field intensity be exactly half of its value at point PP?
