Answer the following questions with reference to the motion of an ideal projectile launched from ground level under uniform gravitational field (air resistance negligible):
(i) State the principle of independent motion for a projectile.
(ii) Give a qualitative explanation for why the horizontal displacement of the projectile varies linearly with time whereas the vertical displacement varies quadratically with time.
(iii) Without using any algebraic elimination, explain conceptually how the independence of the two components leads to a parabolic trajectory when the path is viewed on an x–y graph.
