Problem

A student whose mass is 60 kg performs simple weighings at three different locations. (i) Calculate the student’s weight on Earth where g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (ii) The acceleration due to gravity on the Moon is 1.6 m s−21.6\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} and on Jupiter it is 24.8 m s−224.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. Determine the student’s weight at each of these two places. (iii) Express the Earth weight obtained in part (i) in kilogram-force (kgf). (iv) On which of the three bodies will the student feel lightest? Give a brief reason based on your calculations.
