Problem

A parallel-plate capacitor is first charged, then disconnected from the battery. A dielectric slab with constant κ>1\kappa>1 is slowly inserted until it completely fills the region between the plates. Describe how (i) the magnitude of the electric field between the plates and (ii) the energy stored in the capacitor change during the insertion, and briefly state the physical reason for each change.
