Problem

A point charge of +5.0 μC+5.0\,\mu\text{C} is fixed in air. Take k=9.0×109 N m2C−2k = 9.0\times10^{9}\,\text{N m}^2\text{C}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at a point 0.60 m0.60\,\text{m} from the charge. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at a point 1.20 m1.20\,\text{m} from the charge. (iii) Determine the ratio of the field strengths obtained in parts (i) and (ii). Verify whether this ratio is consistent with the expected dependence of the field on distance.
