A series LCR circuit is connected to a sinusoidal ac source.
(i) Define electrical resonance for such a circuit.
(ii) Explain qualitatively how the circuit’s impedance varies with angular frequency and hence state the condition under which the current amplitude becomes maximum.
(iii) Draw a neat, labelled sketch showing the variation of current amplitude with angular frequency. Mark on the graph the resonant angular frequency, the half-power points and the bandwidth.
(iv) What is meant by the quality factor of a series resonant circuit? Explain how it is related to the sharpness of the resonance curve.
