Problem

Three identical sealed laboratories are described below. In each lab, a physicist releases a small object and measures its acceleration relative to the floor. • Lab A: The lab rests on the surface of the Moon, where the local gravitational field is 1.6 m/s21.6\,\text{m/s}^2 downward. • Lab B: The lab drifts in deep space and fires its thrusters so that the entire lab accelerates 3.0 m/s23.0\,\text{m/s}^2 upward. • Lab C: The lab is in Earth orbit (so initially weightless) but then fires downward-pointing thrusters that cause the lab to accelerate 2.0 m/s22.0\,\text{m/s}^2 downward. Rank the magnitude of the object’s measured acceleration in the three labs from greatest to least, and state the numerical value of that acceleration in each lab.
