Problem
Rohan visited a stationery shop and bought some pens and notebooks. A pen costs ₹15 while a notebook costs ₹25. He finally bought a total of 12 items for ₹230.
(i) If Rohan bought x pens and y notebooks, write the pair of linear equations that model the given information.
(ii) For each equation, prepare a table showing any two convenient ordered pairs that satisfy it.
(iii) Draw the graphs of the two equations on the same Cartesian plane, clearly labelling each axis with its physical meaning and choosing a suitable scale.
(iv) From the point of intersection of the two lines, obtain the exact number of pens and notebooks purchased by Rohan.
(v) Using your graph, determine the greatest number of pens Rohan can buy if he decides to spend at most ₹300 while still purchasing exactly 12 items in all.
