Problem

The points A(2,5)A(2,5) and B(8,1)B(8,1) are two vertices of a triangle ABCABC. The median from the third vertex CC to the side ABAB has slope −32-\dfrac{3}{2} and length 55 units. (i) Calculate the coordinates of the midpoint MM of ABAB. (ii) Write the equation of the median CMCM in slope–intercept form. (iii) Using the fact that CM=5CM=5, determine the possible coordinates of CC and hence describe the two admissible positions of the vertex CC. Provide complete working.
