Problem

A car travels along a straight section of highway. Its motion consists of three consecutive segments: • Segment 1: 20 m s−1^{-1} east for 120 s • Segment 2: 15 m s−1^{-1} west for 80 s • Segment 3: 25 m s−1^{-1} east for 60 s (a) For each segment, calculate the car’s displacement, indicating the algebraic sign that corresponds to the chosen east–positive axis. (b) Determine the car’s total displacement relative to its starting position. Give your answer as a signed value and also state its magnitude and direction. (c) Compute the car’s average velocity for the entire trip. Express your result with both magnitude and direction, and show all reasoning clearly.
