Problem

Four identical point masses, each 0.25 kg0.25\,\text{kg}, are fixed at the corners of a square with side length 0.40 m0.40\,\text{m}. The axis of rotation is perpendicular to the plane of the square and passes through its center. One of the masses is then slid along one side to the midpoint of that side, while the other three remain at the corners. What is the new rotational inertia of the system about the same axis? (a) 0.08 kg⋅m20.08\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2 (b) 0.06 kg⋅m20.06\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2 (c) 0.07 kg⋅m20.07\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2 (d) 0.04 kg⋅m20.04\,\text{kg}\cdot\text{m}^2
