Problem

Consider the reversible reaction D(g) + E(g) ⇌ F(g) Four identical, rigid containers (W, X, Y, and Z) are each shown at equilibrium using particulate diagrams. The temperature and volume are the same for all containers. • W: 12 D particles, 12 E particles, 1 F particle • X: 6 D particles, 6 E particles, 6 F particles • Y: 2 D particles, 2 E particles, 10 F particles • Z: 0 D particles, 0 E particles, 12 F particles Answer the following. (a) For each container, classify the equilibrium constant KK as being less than 1, approximately equal to 1, or greater than 1. Justify each classification with reference to the particulate information. (b) Rank the containers from smallest to largest value of KK. If any containers are tied, state the tie and explain why.
