Problem

A 2 kg wooden block is sliding on a horizontal table against a kinetic friction force of 4 N. While still in motion it collides and sticks to a 1 kg block that was initially at rest on the same table. Will the total linear momentum of the two-block system be conserved during the very short collision interval? Justify your answer with reference to the forces involved.
