Problem

For a liquid of surface tension TT rising in a capillary tube of internal radius rr, an empirical relation is h=2Tcos⁡θρrg,h = \frac{2T\cos\theta}{\rho r g}, where hh is the height of the liquid column, ρ\rho is the density of the liquid, gg is the acceleration due to gravity and θ\theta is the angle of contact. (i) Show by dimensional checking whether the equation above is dimensionally consistent. (ii) Comment on whether the numerical factor 22 and the trigonometric term cos⁡θ\cos\theta can be obtained solely from dimensional considerations. Give reasons for your answer.
