Problem

Consider the matrices A=(121014001),B=(1−2x01−4001),A = \begin{pmatrix}1 & 2 & 1\\ 0 & 1 & 4\\ 0 & 0 & 1\end{pmatrix}, \qquad B = \begin{pmatrix}1 & -2 & x\\ 0 & 1 & -4\\ 0 & 0 & 1\end{pmatrix}, where xx is a real number. (i) Find the value of xx for which AB=I3AB = I_3. (ii) Using the value of xx obtained, verify that BA=I3BA = I_3. (iii) Comment on the uniqueness of the inverse of a non-singular matrix in the light of your calculations.
