Problem

Two blocks AA and BB of masses 2.0 kg2.0\,\text{kg} and 3.0 kg3.0\,\text{kg} respectively are connected by a light inextensible string and placed on a smooth horizontal surface. A constant horizontal force of 15 N15\,\text{N} is applied to block AA in the direction of the string. (i) Determine the common acceleration of the system. (ii) Find the tension in the string. (iii) Calculate the work done by the applied force after the blocks have moved 4.0 m4.0\,\text{m}. (iv) Compute the total increase in kinetic energy of the two-block system over this distance and verify that it equals the work obtained in part (iii).
