Problem

Seawater has density 1.03×103 kg m−31.03\times10^{3}\,\text{kg}\,\text{m}^{-3}. A diver’s gauge shows a pressure of 5.0×104 Pa5.0\times10^{4}\,\text{Pa} above atmospheric pressure. Determine the diver’s depth below the water surface, and state whether this pressure at that point acts downward only, sideways only, or equally in all directions.
