Problem

A solid block of volume 100 cm3100\,\text{cm}^3 is released in a tank that has an upper layer of kerosene of density 800 kg m−3800\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3} and a lower layer of water of density 1000 kg m−31000\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}. At equilibrium the block is found to have half of its volume in kerosene and half in water. Calculate the density of the block.
