Problem

A student connects a fixed resistor to a 9 V battery in a simple circuit. The resistance marked on the resistor is 4.7 kΩ. (i) State the relation between potential difference, current and resistance for a conductor kept at constant temperature. (ii) Convert the marked resistance into ohms and calculate the current that should flow through the circuit. (iii) The student wants to adjust the circuit so that the current becomes 5 mA while still using the 9 V battery. Calculate the resistance value that should be used to obtain this current.
