Problem

A solid steel ball of mass 200 g200\,\text{g} is rolling on a horizontal surface. Its kinetic energy is measured to be 9.0 J9.0\,\text{J}. (i) Convert the given mass to SI units. (ii) Calculate the speed of the ball at the instant of measurement. (iii) The ball enters a rough patch where any ball moving slower than 10 m s−110\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} stops within 0.25 m0.25\,\text{m}. State, with calculation, whether this ball will cross the rough patch or come to rest within it (assume no energy losses before the patch).
