Problem
(a) Define angular displacement for a particle in uniform circular motion and establish the relation between the angular displacement θ (in radians) and the number of complete revolutions n made by the particle.
(b) Explain briefly why angular displacement is regarded as a dimensionless physical quantity even though it is expressed in the unit “radian”.
(c) A pointer on a circular dial starts from the 3 o’clock position and rotates anticlockwise through an angular displacement of 5.5rad. Calculate:
(i) the number of complete revolutions executed, and
(ii) the remaining angle (in degrees) through which it has turned after completing those revolutions.
Give clear reasoning for every step of your solution.
