Problem

Consider the behaviour of sin⁡xx\dfrac{\sin x}{x} near x=0x=0. (i) State the two standard trigonometric limits that involve sin⁡x\sin x and cos⁡x\cos x as xx approaches 00. (ii) Using a suitable geometrical or analytical argument, justify that lim⁡x→0sin⁡xx=1\displaystyle\lim_{x\to 0}\dfrac{\sin x}{x}=1. Clearly mention each logical step involved. (iii) Hence or otherwise, determine lim⁡x→0sin⁡kxsin⁡mx\displaystyle\lim_{x\to 0}\dfrac{\sin kx}{\sin mx}, where kk and mm are non-zero real constants, and explain why your result is valid.
