Problem

Consider the points A(−2,5), B(7,0), C(−4,−3)A( -2,5 ),\, B( 7,0 ),\, C( -4,-3 ) and D(0,8)D(0,8) on a Cartesian plane. Answer the following. (i) For each point, state the quadrant in which it lies or the axis on which it is located. Give reasons for your answers. (ii) Explain why the ordinate of BB is zero and describe what this implies about its position. (iii) Compare the positions of AA and CC with respect to their abscissae and ordinates, and describe the symmetry (if any) that you observe. (iv) If a new point EE has the same ordinate as DD but its abscissa is the negative of the abscissa of BB, write the coordinates of EE and state its quadrant.
