Problem

A solid sample has mass 48 g48\,\text{g} and volume 40 cm340\,\text{cm}^3. The densities of some liquids are: Fresh water: 1.00 g cm−31.00\,\text{g cm}^{-3} Sea water: 1.03 g cm−31.03\,\text{g cm}^{-3} Ethanol: 0.79 g cm−30.79\,\text{g cm}^{-3} Glycerine: 1.26 g cm−31.26\,\text{g cm}^{-3}. (i) Calculate the density of the sample. (ii) Identify each liquid in which the sample will float when fully immersed.
