Problem

A copper wire of initial length LL and radius rr has resistance R0R_0. It is stretched uniformly so that its length becomes 3L3L. The stretching is done without any loss of material and the temperature remains constant. (i) Express the new radius r′r' in terms of rr. (ii) Show that the new resistance R′R' is 9R09R_0. (iii) If R0=4 ΩR_0 = 4\,\Omega, calculate the value of R′R' after stretching.
