Problem

Electric power is transmitted from a generating station to a city through overhead cables. The transmission line operates at 132 kV and delivers a current of 250 A to the receiving end. Study the situation and answer: (a) Calculate the power delivered to the city at 132 kV. (b) If, instead, the same power were to be sent at 11 kV, find the current that would have to be carried by the line. (c) Briefly comment on why very high voltages are preferred for long-distance transmission of electrical power.
