Problem

For a particular series RLCRLC circuit, R=10 ΩR = 10\,\Omega, L=0.10 HL = 0.10\,\text{H}, C=25 μFC = 25\,\mu\text{F} and the peak value of the applied sinusoidal voltage is 100 V100\,\text{V}. The circuit is operated successively at two different frequencies f1=200 Hzf_1 = 200\,\text{Hz} and f2=800 Hzf_2 = 800\,\text{Hz}. (a) Calculate the impedance of the circuit at f1f_1. (b) Calculate the impedance of the circuit at f2f_2. (c) Hence find the ratio of the peak currents Im,1:Im,2I_{m,1}:I_{m,2} at the two frequencies. (d) Which of the two frequencies is closer to the resonant frequency of the circuit? Justify your choice with reference to the results obtained.
