Problem

For a certain planet the acceleration due to gravity at the surface is 9.0 m/s29.0\,\text{m/s}^2. At an altitude of 5.0×105 m5.0\times10^{5}\,\text{m} above the surface it is measured to be 7.6 m/s27.6\,\text{m/s}^2. Take G=6.67×10−11 N m2/kg2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N m}^2\text{/kg}^2. (i) Determine the radius of the planet. (ii) Hence calculate the mass of the planet.
