Problem

The points A(4,−2,5)A(4,-2,5) and B(−6,8,−7)B(-6,8,-7) lie in space. (i) A point CC on ABAB satisfies the relation OC⃗=12 (OA⃗+OB⃗)\vec{OC}=\dfrac{1}{2}\,(\vec{OA}+\vec{OB}). Explain, without performing any calculation, the geometrical position of CC on the line segment ABAB and justify your answer. (ii) Verify the conclusion of part (i) by determining the ratio in which CC divides ABAB internally. (iii) Suppose instead that a point DD on the same line satisfies OD⃗=2OA⃗−OB⃗\vec{OD}=2\vec{OA}-\vec{OB}. Describe whether DD divides ABAB internally or externally and support your reasoning.
