Problem

Two point charges are fixed in air as described below. (i) A charge of +2 μC+2\,\mu\text{C} is placed 0.40 m0.40\,\text{m} from a charge of +3 μC+3\,\mu\text{C}. Calculate the magnitude of the electrostatic force FF between them. (ii) Both charges are then changed to +4 μC+4\,\mu\text{C} and +6 C+6\,\text{C} respectively, while their separation is reduced to 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m}. Without using the value of the constant again, determine the new force in terms of FF and hence find its numerical value.
