Problem

A uniform thin rod of length LL is pivoted at a point PP located at a distance L4\dfrac{L}{4} from one end. The axis is perpendicular to the rod and passes through PP. (i) Obtain an expression for the moment of inertia of the rod about the pivot axis in terms of MM and LL. (ii) Hence derive the corresponding radius of gyration kPk_{P}. (iii) Express kPk_{P} as a fraction of the rod length LL.
