Problem

The reaction Fe3+(aq)+SCN−(aq)⇌FeSCN2+(aq)\mathrm{Fe^{3+}(aq) + SCN^{-}(aq) \rightleftharpoons FeSCN^{2+}(aq)} has Kc=1.0×102K_c = 1.0 \times 10^{2} at room temperature. A solution initially at equilibrium is disturbed by adding solid KSCN\mathrm{KSCN}, raising the concentration of SCN−\mathrm{SCN^{-}} to 0.0030 M0.0030\,\text{M} while leaving [Fe3+]=0.0020 M[\mathrm{Fe^{3+}}]=0.0020\,\text{M} and [FeSCN2+]=0.0010 M[\mathrm{FeSCN^{2+}}]=0.0010\,\text{M} unchanged at that instant. Calculate QcQ_c immediately after the disturbance and indicate the direction in which the system will shift to re-establish equilibrium.
