Problem

Consider the linear function f:R→Rf:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R defined by f(x)=mx+cf(x)=mx+c where m≠0m\neq0. Suppose a function g:R→Rg:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R of the form g(x)=px+qg(x)=px+q is its inverse. (i) Write the expressions for (f∘g)(x)(f\circ g)(x) and (g∘f)(x)(g\circ f)(x). (ii) By equating each composition to the appropriate identity function, determine pp and qq in terms of mm and cc.
