Problem

A pebble is dropped from the balcony of a building. Assume g=10 m/s2g = 10\,\text{m/s}^2. Answer the following questions, showing all working. (i) Calculate the distance the pebble falls during the first second of its motion. (ii) Calculate the distance it falls during the second second of its motion. (iii) Calculate the distance it falls during the third second of its motion. (iv) Hence find the numerical ratio of the distances obtained in parts (i), (ii) and (iii). (v) Determine the total distance fallen by the pebble in the first 3 s3\,\text{s}.
