Problem
A laboratory technician connects the primary of an ideal transformer having Np=1000 turns to a 120V (rms) AC supply. When the secondary is connected to an ammeter and a 6Ω non-inductive resistor, the ammeter reads 8A (rms).
Based on these observations, answer the following:
(i) Calculate the rms secondary voltage.
(ii) Determine the number of turns in the secondary winding.
(iii) Find the rms current in the primary winding.
(iv) Classify the transformer as step-up or step-down and give a numerical justification.
