Problem

The mass, specific heat capacity, and temperature of a solid are 1000 g1000\,\text{g}, 12 cal g−1 ∘C−1\frac{1}{2}\,\text{cal g}^{-1}\,^{\circ}\text{C}^{-1}, and 80∘C80^{\circ}\text{C}, respectively. The masses of the liquid and calorimeter are 900 g900\,\text{g} and 200 g200\,\text{g}. Initially, both are at room temperature, 20∘C20^{\circ}\text{C}. Both the calorimeter and the solid are made of the same material. At steady state, the temperature of the mixture is 40∘C40^{\circ}\text{C}. Find the specific heat capacity of the unknown liquid.
