Problem

A cuboid of solid wax has dimensions 10 cm×8 cm×6 cm10\,\text{cm}\times 8\,\text{cm}\times 6\,\text{cm}. It is melted and recast into a single cube of the same material, assuming no loss of wax. (i) Define the term "volume of a solid" and briefly explain why, in the absence of loss, the amount of material remains unchanged when the solid is melted and reshaped. (ii) Calculate the length of an edge of the cube obtained after recasting. (iii) State, with reference to your calculation in part (ii), how the principle mentioned in part (i) has been verified in this situation.
