(a) State the relation connecting initial velocity u, final velocity v, constant acceleration a and stopping distance s for a body brought to rest by uniform retardation.
(b) A car travelling on a straight road is brought to rest only by applying the brakes; no other forces of significance act on the car in the direction of motion. Using the relation stated in part (a), explain mathematically how the stopping distance changes when the initial speed of the car is doubled while the braking force remains unchanged.
(c) Give two practical safety recommendations for drivers that follow from the result obtained in part (b).
