Problem

A right-angled triangle DEFDEF has ∠E=90∘\angle E = 90^{\circ}. The lengths of the sides are DE=2pDE = 2p and EF=(p+3)EF = (p + 3), where p>0p > 0 and p≠3p \neq 3. (i) Express the length of the hypotenuse DFDF in simplest form in terms of pp. (ii) For the acute angle θ=∠DFE\theta = \angle DFE, obtain expressions for sin⁡θ\sin \theta, cos⁡θ\cos \theta and tan⁡θ\tan \theta in terms of pp. (iii) Hence, write algebraic expressions for csc⁡θ\csc \theta, sec⁡θ\sec \theta and cot⁡θ\cot \theta. (iv) Prove that 1+cot⁡2θ=csc⁡2θ1 + \cot^2 \theta = \csc^2 \theta for this triangle by substituting your expressions from parts (ii) and (iii).
