Problem

A sample of an ideal gas occupies V1=2.5 LV_1 = 2.5\,\text{L} at a pressure of P1=1.0×105 PaP_1 = 1.0\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa} and a temperature of T1=300 KT_1 = 300\,\text{K}. The gas is then taken to a new state where its pressure is P2=1.5×105 PaP_2 = 1.5\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa} and its temperature is T2=450 KT_2 = 450\,\text{K}. (a) Write the relation connecting P, VP,\,V and TT for a fixed mass of an ideal gas between two equilibrium states. (b) Calculate the final volume V2V_2 of the gas in litres, keeping your answer to three significant figures. (c) Comment, in one or two sentences, on whether the numerical change in pressure or the numerical change in temperature has the larger influence on the volume in this case.
