Problem

A worker lifts two different cartons from the ground onto a loading platform. Use the data given below to solve the following: (a) The first carton has a mass of 20 kg20\,\text{kg}. The worker performs 1.96×103 J1.96\times10^{3}\,\text{J} of work in lifting it at a steady speed. Calculate the height of the platform. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (b) The second carton has a mass of 15 kg15\,\text{kg} and is lifted to twice the height calculated in part (a). Determine the work done on the second carton. (c) Find the ratio of the mechanical energies gained by the two cartons during their respective lifts.
