Problem

The graph of a function ff consists only of the two straight-line segments described below: • Segment A joins the point (−3,2)(-3,2) to the point (0,5)(0,5). The end at (−3,2)(-3,2) is an open circle, while the end at (0,5)(0,5) is a solid dot. • Segment B joins the point (0,5)(0,5) to the point (4,−1)(4,-1). The end at (0,5)(0,5) is the same solid dot, while the end at (4,−1)(4,-1) is an open circle. No other points belong to the graph of ff. Answer the following questions. (i) Sketch the graph of ff on a pair of coordinate axes, clearly indicating open and closed points. (ii) State the domain of ff. (iii) State the range of ff. (iv) Give reasons for the inclusion or exclusion of the endpoints x=−3x=-3 and x=4x=4 in the domain you have written.
