Problem

A uniform thin rod of length LL is considered with several parallel axes all perpendicular to the rod. (i) State the theorem that relates the moment of inertia of a body about any axis to its moment of inertia about a parallel axis through the centre of mass. (ii) Qualitatively explain how the moment of inertia of the rod changes as the axis is shifted gradually from the centre of mass towards one end while remaining perpendicular to the rod. (iii) Three specific axes are taken: AA through the centre of the rod, BB through one end of the rod, and CC through a point on the line of the rod extended such that this point is at a distance LL from the centre. Arrange IA,IB,I_A, I_B, and ICI_C in increasing order and justify your answer.
